Our Ethics – The Ingredients We Refuse to Invite Into Our Sacred Space

At Venusian Mirror, every item we create or curate is infused with intention, care, and love. We believe your body is a temple—your skin the sacred boundary between you and the world—so what you place on it matters deeply.

In the same way you might cleanse your energy field or clear your home with sage, you can also choose to protect your body from harmful, disruptive substances. This is why we are committed to avoiding ingredients that do not align with our values of health, harmony, and spiritual well-being.

When you bring a Venusian Mirror product into your life, you can trust that it has been crafted without the toxic additives so often found in conventional cosmetics, skincare, and body care. Below, we’ve outlined some of the most common harmful ingredients we avoid—and why.

Ingredients We Will Never Use

Petroleum By-Products & Mineral Oils
Also called petroleum jelly, petrolatum, liquid paraffin, or Vaseline, these are derived from crude oil and create a barrier on the skin that traps debris and bacteria. They cannot be metabolized by the body and are linked to contamination, estrogen dominance, and even cancer.
Found in: lotions, lip balms, baby products, hair treatments.

Isopropyl Myristate
A thickening agent that can clog pores, especially for those with oily or combination skin. Over time, it may contribute to breakouts.
Found in: cosmetics, moisturizers.

Alcohol
While it can give products a “light” feel, alcohol dehydrates the skin, weakens its structure, and makes it more vulnerable to irritation.
Found in: toners, face washes, skincare products.

Dioxane
Hidden under names like sodium lauryl sulfate, PEG, or anything ending in “-eth,” this ingredient is a known human carcinogen and banned in several countries.
Found in: shampoos, soaps, cleansers.

Benzophenone
A UV blocker linked to endocrine disruption, developmental toxicity, and organ damage.
Found in: sunscreens, nail polish, moisturizers.

BHA & BHT
Preservatives that can cause endocrine disruption and are toxic to wildlife.
Found in: lip treatments, cosmetics, fragrances.

DEA Compounds
Used to make products creamy or sudsy, these are linked to cancer and bioaccumulation.
Found in: shaving creams, moisturizers, cosmetics.

Formaldehyde
A preservative with strong links to cancer and skin irritation.
Found in: nail polish, hair treatments, body washes.

Hydroquinone
A skin lightening agent banned in many countries due to toxicity.
Found in: cleansers, moisturizers.

Parabens
Hormone disruptors associated with cancer and reproductive harm.
Found in: cleansers, scrubs, moisturizers.

Phenoxyethanol
A preservative that can cause allergic reactions and nervous system effects.
Found in: lotions, cosmetics, soaps.

Polyacrylamides
Break down into acrylamide, a carcinogen.
Found in: anti-aging creams, lotions, cosmetics.

Siloxane
A silicone-based compound that disrupts hormones and can be harmful to aquatic life.
Found in: hair products, “oil-free” makeup.

Triclosan
An antibacterial agent that may contribute to antibiotic resistance and is toxic to wildlife.
Found in: soaps, deodorants, toothpaste.

Why This Matters

Words like “natural” or “fragrance-free” on a label don’t always tell the whole truth. Just as you might read the energy of a room before stepping inside, it’s important to read the ingredient list before allowing a product into your daily ritual.

Changing the products you use can be a journey—one that takes intention and patience—but many people discover that removing petrochemicals and synthetic toxins from their skincare leads to clearer skin, reduced irritation, and an overall sense of wellness.

By choosing Venusian Mirror, you are choosing to honor your body as the sacred vessel it is. Every product we offer has been created or selected with a deep commitment to purity, sustainability, and mindful living.

Your body, your temple, your choice.
Let’s keep it clear of anything that doesn’t serve your highest good. ✨
